Pikes Peak MountainPikes Peak Mountain has been the center of attention in this region for hundreds of years – drawing people from all over the world. Several cities and communities make up this area surrounding the foothills of Pikes Peak including Colorado Springs, Monument/Tri-Lakes area, Manitou Springs, Woodland Park, Divide, Cripple Creek/Victor, and numerous other outlying communities nearby. 

The Ute people, who were indigenous to Colorado and this region, called the mountain Tava, the Ute word meaning “sun.” The history of these Native Americans is filled with setbacks and changes to their way of life from newcomers. However, fascinating stories of courage and resilience emerged from these beautiful people. In fact, much of their influence remains today in the region – making Pikes Peak a landmark of American heritage.

Katharine Lee BatesPoet Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to pen the words of what later became one of American’s most treasured songs: “America the Beautiful” after a trip to the top of Pikes Peak in 1893. Magestic views of the surrounding Rocky Mountain Range and the Great Plains to the East continue to inspire local residents and visitors every day!

Cripple Creek is a nearby historical mining town that now offers visitors a “back-in-time” experience of the Gold Rush history in the region. The Cripple Creek-Victor Gold Mine continues to be a high producing mine to this day! The U.S. Olympic Training Center is headquartered in the heart of Colorado Springs due to the numerous advantages of training top athletes in this area. If you enjoy professional sports, Denver is only 60 miles north. The Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, and the Colorado Avalanche keep all of us cheering! 

The U.S. military has made this region a hub as well. We are proud hosts of the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base, Schreiver Air Force Base and the infamous NORAD command center. In fact much of America’s land, air and space defense programs are managed here!

Pikes Peak is a gateway to so much more the West has to offer. Centrally located and driving distance to some of the most beautiful and treasured places on this planet!
